On June 8, Steve and Madonna Yancey, Mary Jude Becker, David Griggs, Wes Roeder and a group from a Jasper outdoor adventure club spent the day paddling on the Little River in Kentucky. It was a perfect day for kayaking not too hot, a nice breeze, blue skies.
We set off from Kentucky Kayaks aboard the Kayak Cadillac with Kayak Jack at the wheel. Jack also served as our intrepid river guide.
Once we arrived at our put-in point, we picked our boats then were pushed into the water. It wasnt long before war broke out among the paddlers. The weapons: SuperSoaker squirt guns that were supposed to be used for bailing water out of the kayaks. David proved to have exceptional aim, although he took his share of heavy fire. David also demonstrated his prowess on the beaver slide and the zip line.
After paddling for a couple of hours, we stopped for lunch by a waterfall that poured from the entrance to a cave. Several people decided to do a little spelunking, but the water was too high for them to go very far into the cave.
Rested and fed, we got back and our kayaks and started paddling again.
Other than the water fights, the trip was uneventful until we neared the end of the line and found an overturned canoe wedge under a log. Fortunately, there were no bodies, and we found the canoes owners at the end of our trip.
We all managed to make it through the whole trip with no mishaps, other than soaking wet clothes, although everyone was tired from all the fun.
Everyone had a good time, and well probably sign up for another adventure with Kayak Jack next summer.
